Most of the time we think of the time we spend in our car during a vacation as a waste. On our travels, we bring along books and gadgets to keep our passengers entertained while we drive at night and avoid side roads just to get where we want to go a lot faster.

Making the trip into the vacation and not just focusing on the destination can be a good way to spend quality time with your family.

Most of us have family scattered about the country that we may visit on odd weekends or during time off, but we seldom plan our vacations around those trips. You might want to rethink your approach to these visits. Instead of doing the mundane thing of driving back and forth, plan a vacation route along the way and take your sweet time going home.

True, it does seem like the plot to the National Lampoon movie “Vacation”, but it can turn a mundane drive into an unforgettable experience. “Road trips” are very popular among young adults and college students, they use it as an excuse to either spend time alone or with friends, listen to music or talk.

Why not do the same with your family?

When thinking about visiting parents, siblings or in-laws in another state, take the time to plan activities along the way to make it more memorable. Rather than hopping on the nearest interstate, look for alternate routes that will take you through parts of the country you’re unfamiliar with. Get the entire family to participate in looking for places you’d like to go, things you’d like to do, like festivals, diners, historical landmarks or whatever you’d like, which is en route to where you might be headed. Turn what might be a one-day drive into a multi-day adventure.

On the way home, drive another way. Take time to enjoy a different selection of locales along the way.

For your time in the car, agree that there will be none of the barriers with which we typically surround ourselves. No one should retreat into a book, cell phone, game or movie. Although some will find this to be too daunting, you can limit the retreat. Take turns in choosing the music that you listen to or rotate the CDs so that you can all appreciate each other’s musical taste and talk about them. Listen to the music your children picked and ask them about it and in return, let them hear music from your past and tell them about it. It may help open doors for other conversations. Make a lot of stops, whether it be for bathroom or food breaks or simply to enjoy the scenery.

If you’re into camping, consider sleeping bags and a tent for overnight stops, just so you don’t have to worry about sticking to an itinerary. If you’d rather sleep in a bed than under the stars, find hotels and make reservations ahead of time. Don’t wing it too much, otherwise the search of where you’ll be staying for the night might ruin your evening and even leave you drained the next day.

GPS is a very accurate and sensitive equipment to monitor the movements of any object and to provide needful information to the receiver. Originally used by the US Defence Department to monitor the movements of the ships or planes and also to detect encroachments of their sea or air space, this utility was later made available for public use.

Many private enterprises are manufacturing and marketing the GPS systems for commercial use. Today it is widely used to monitor the movements of vehicles as well as to locate stolen vehicles. GPS are also used to track shipments of goods.

You will find that there are some great car GPS that have great features like 3D maps, Bluetooth, and interesting locations in the current areas to visit as well as real-time updating. Select a GPS system that will feature a variety of ways to get to your destination. This can include by intersection, by address, by a location that has been selected from a map or by a personal address book.

If you’ve been in the market for a car, truck, or SUV recently, then you’ve seen the vast number of vehicles sporting new portable vehicle GPS systems as part of their standard package upgrades. These systems are extremely handy when you find yourself stuck in traffic, caught in nasty road construction messes, or tangled in a traffic pile up.

Most portable vehicle GPS systems don’t require any complicated usage or stopping the car to read the display. They are mostly point and click easy with voice recognition and read back instruction functionality. The portable units often talk you through where to go in exacting detail. They even readjust or repeat instructions if you mess up. Never mind the sometimes announcing accents, they are actually very useful. When the Car GPS navigation system is not instructing you about the route to take it will play you music or songs from your favorite FM channel. Actually the features are endless and come in variety of combinations. You need to choose a car GPS system that fits your budget and your needs and also integrates neatly with you car.

Today, Panasonic is one of the largest producers of consumer electronics in the world. The company manufactures a wide selection of products, and has a policy of achieving 100% customer satisfaction. There are a lot of things to take into account when buying a digital camera. With new models coming out all the time, each with much better functions then before, it can really be quite difficult for non technical people to make the right decision.

It is very hard to designate one model as the best Digital Camera Panasonic. The brand offers compact cameras fit for people who want to go light. This popular digital camera manufacturer also offers digital cameras that have automated features-a development that would benefit people who do not want to go into the hassle of manually setting up their cameras.

This popular digital camera manufacturer also offers digital cameras that have automated features-a development that would benefit people who do not want to go into the hassle of manually setting up their cameras. One thing to consider when buying a digital camera is how much zoom the camera has. How much zoom you need will depend more on your usage of the digital camera, if you are just going to take quick snaps here and there it might not be a big issue, but of cause the less zoom you have the more limited you will be with what you can do.

Photographers who love auto modes would find this camera good. This feature of the DMC-FX500 automatically adjusts lighting so that pictures are captured realistically. Although the above-mentioned Panasonic models are highly recommended, you should still take the time to compare different models. The best Panasonic digital camera for your needs might not be the ones mentioned here. Look out for them by always trying out each model before deciding on your purchase.

There is a camera for everyone. This great company continues to lead the field with their great products and the company continues to add to their list of choices. The Panasonic digital cameras come with many different features that include the facilities for taking pictures from great distances. Digital cameras may cost more than the ordinary camera but it is cost effective in the long term. Unlike ordinary cameras, digital cameras operate without expensive films.

Choosing a digital camera brand really depends on the preference of the user. There are brands that are high priced because they are popular and the manufacturers have spent millions for advertisements.

In September’37, Air Canada commenced with the name of Trans-Canada Airlines. The first 50 minute flight was on a Lockheed L-10A. It flew from Vancouver to Seattle, carrying some mail and only two people. The airline became popular very soon and Trans-Canada Airlines became Canada’s national airline, by the year’64. Around the same time, it was renamed as Air Canada. In the year’89, Air Canada was privatized. Around the same time, the airlines also took over the Canadian Airlines International.

The airline is today more than 70 years and is largest airline providing passenger service in Canada. It carries approximately 32 million passengers yearly, to 170 varied destinations worldwide. Air Canada ranked as–th among the different airlines worldwide.

Air Canada believes that travel should be convenient for its customers and therefore it is the only airline that offer flight passes. Flight passes allow the passenger to manage their travel online. These flight passes can be obtained either in the form of pre-purchased flight credits or a monthly subscription that provides you with unlimited flights in certain sectors.

Air Canada is indeed one of the world’s best airlines. This is the feedback provided from, none other than the customers of Air Canada themselves. The airline was awarded with the title of the ‘Best Airline in North America’, after a survey carried out, from August 2006 and June 2007. It also received the Airline Industry Achievement Award in 2007, for being a leader amongst all airlines. Air Canada has many ‘Best Airline in Canada and North America’ titles in its kitty, ranked by the readers of diverse travel magazines.

While Air Canada works hard to keep their passengers happy and satisfied, they work just as hard to do their bit for preserving the environment. They have already started this process by spending billions and investing in new aircrafts that are energy efficient. Air Canada has managed to reduce the emission intensity of their flights by 28%. They also have an ambitious target of improving their fuel efficiency by 25% by the year 2020.

Following the green initiative, the airline has also launched several green programs in-house, and many recycling programs, on board. They have formed a team with an attention-grabbing program, called the ‘zerofootprint’. Through this program, the passengers are allowed to voluntarily equalize the carbon emissions from the flights, taken by them, by being involved in the reforestation program in the country.

Though Air Canada is counted among the largest airlines in the world, yet it seeks the help of the other airlines to offer an extensive network of worldwide destinations to its passengers.

There was a time when that designing and sending postcards was costly, time-consuming, and expensive. With the advancements of technology it is now possible to create unique and unusual postcards online that can provide presence and exposure to a target audience at an affordable rate.

The process for designing postcards on-line is easy. A business need only select the design, include their logo and message, or submit a jpeg file with the information, along with the list of clients who are to receive the postcard. The postcards will be created and can be sent for a nominal fee.

The website company will create a postcard to be reviewed and approved by the company, print the postcards and mail them on the date that is agreed to by the company. In some cases a business can schedule postcards of the same design to be sent to customers at regular intervals and simply add names to the customer list as it grows.

This is a very unique way to develop a presence in the community that a business serves and to stretch a marketing dollar. When an individual receives a postcard from a company that is bright, cheerful, and contains a message that is interesting, they will usually share the postcard with friends and neighbors.

Unique, eye catching postcards are not only attractive, they provide a personal touch for individuals who receive them. Many individuals appreciate the effort taken to create a postcard on-line and send it. For an individual this is a special method of sharing a message. For a business, it is an invaluable tool for maintaining positive presence in the community.

A growing business that wishes to expand their market will find that designing postcards on-line will be a way that they can reach a mass group within a short time, with minimal effort and cost. Whether a person wishes to design postcards on-line for personal use or for business use, a representative is always available to assist in creating a postcard that will be unique, inspiring, and provide the kind of message that one wishes to convey.

One of the largest and most visited cities in Queensland, the Gold Coast is a lovely, hip, and easygoing city offering numerous activities that one can enjoy. Gorgeous beaches, majestic scenery as well as world-class resorts and restaurants can be discovered in the town. The Gold Coast is the perfect city if one wants to take a long walk or to ride a bike as the town prides itself of astounding sights. The following article is designed to provide a basic accommodation and travel guide for people that would wish to travel and visit the Gold Coast.

Population

The Gold Coast is the 6th biggest city of Australia. With a population of more than 751,000 and it is visited by over 10.5 million foreign visitors each year continues to become Australia’s number one holiday destination. The Gold Coast has both a domestic and international airport, so it can be easily reached from all over the globe. The local currency is the Australian dollar and foreigners can change their cash in a large number of agencies throughout the city.

Climate

The Gold Coast’s climate is really temperate, meaning the weather is pleasant all year long, with temperature averages from 17 to 26 degrees Celsius. The weather in Gold Coast doesn’t really reach extreme levels, so if a person travels in an off-peak season, they are probably going to still experience pleasant weather which is still suitable for the beach!

When to Visit

The peak seasons are during the summer months of November to January, when tourists wish to spend the Christmas or New Year Holidays. The other popular travel periods are during Easter and the throughout September and October when Australian youngsters enjoy school vacations. The city’s cultural season is in full swing during the months of Sep to January when countless holidays and events are held. Airlines, hostels and restaurants are less expensive and less crowded during the off-peak seasons and there are some appealing events going on during this time of the year.

Where to Eat

Tourists visiting the Gold Coast will not be disappointed by the wide range of cuisine available, with restaurants found on every corner. The Gold Coast boasts of a mix of sophisticated cafes and restaurants . The primary location to eat and be seen is Tedder Avenue in Main Beach, where about 30 top restaurants and bars sit side-by-side on either side of the street. Surfers Paradise has more places to eat, but they are scattered across broader geography and there isn’t any specific dining ’strip ‘. The Broadbeach CBD has a good range of delicious dining options, but as you head further south the restaurants become less and further between.

What to See

The Gold Coast offers a good range of attractions – from wonderful beaches and resorts to theme parks. Theme parks like Dreamworld, Sea World, and the Warner Brothers MovieWorld are only some family favourites. Other attractions that bring you nearer to nature are O’Reilly’s Vineyard, Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, and David Fleay’s Wildlife Park.

On the other hand, if you are looking for a calming holiday and don’t feel a bit like touring around, resorts like the Chevron Renaissance in Surfers Paradise give travellers the ultimate summer experience where you get to enjoy the sun, sand, and beaches all within walking distance.

Gold Coast Accommodation – Where to stay

Adding to the sights and views that vacation makers look forward to when visiting the Gold Coast, the world-class and modern lifestyle accommodation is a must to experience. The Gold Coast has been known for putting together luxury and cost as well as comfort and style. There is a wide range of Gold Coast accommodation that offers classy furnishings inside full security buildings and undercover parking. Resorts such as the Chevron Renaissance boast expansive pools, sub-tropical gardens, manicured gardens and a close proximity to the Gold Coast’s wonderful beaches.

If you are looking for your Gold Coast Accommodation, make sure you visit SunMore Holidays. SunMore has a large range of self-contained apartments in popular resorts such as the Chevron Renaissance – all at very affordable prices.

Traveling to various destinations all over the world can be a lot of fun. A lot of travelers simply assume that they’ll need to grab a car hire for traveling around while on holiday. It’s necessary to check out the public transport system in the area where you’ll be vacationing to actually consider if you will need to pay for a car hire for your entire visit.

In a region like Brisbane you will discover various different types of public transportation available to you if you are staying in the center of the city. Considering that this is among the most populated areas in the Queensland, typically if you’ll be staying for only a couple of days you certainly will not need to have a car rental unless you desire to travel to the locations surrounding Brisbane like the coastal areas of the Gold Coast and the Tropical North Queensland.

Within the city however, you’ll notice that nearly all public transportation runs pretty frequently throughout the day and that most area hotels offer shuttle services to and from the airport. Buses are a popular form of transportation within the center of Brisbane and regardless of whether you happen to be searching for buses to take you on a day trip or a bus to get you just to the other side of town you’ll want to stop in the Roma Street Transit Center for information and bus schedules.

Along with buses, trains are also a great mode to travel about Brisbane. Both area and long distance choices are available and can be explored through the Queensland Rail Travel Center. Here you are able to learn all the information you need to travel wherever you want to go and it is extremely basic to make reservations ahead of time or to hop a last minute train out of town.

Even with that said one of the most favorite kinds of transportation for vacationers is by a car hire or motorcycle rental. This option offers travelers more freedom to come and go at their own speed without needing to stress about missing a bus or train back to their accommodation after a long day. Contingent upon the places you plan on viewing while you’re in Brisbane you may perhaps choose to rent a car merely for a couple of days or for the total length of your visit.

When you are attempting to book a brisbane accommodation visit www.brisbaneinformation.com.au. Whether you are attempting to stay in one of the many brisbane hotels or wanting to know about local events, all you need can be found on this site.

The frigate birds are a family of seabirds and are also called frigate pelicans. It can be found breeding along the Pacific coast of Costa Rica and in the Corcovado National Park.

Females are black, but have a white breast and lower neck sides, a brown band on the wings and a blue eye ring. They have long wings, tails and bills and the males have a red gular pouch that is inflated during the breeding season to attract a mate. They are also sometimes called Man of War birds or Pirate birds.

Due to the fact that these guys lack the ability to take off from water, they snatch prey from the ocean surface or beach using their long, hooked bills. They have been seen catching fish, baby turtles and similar items in this way. When it comes to feeding they will also rob other seabirds, using their speed and maneuverability to outrun and harass their victims. The Magnificent Frigate Bird is 100 cm long with a 215 cm wingspan. They live an estimated of 30 years. Frigate birds are seasonally monogamous. This means that males will only mate with one female each season. They are also known for nesting in colonies.

Male Magnificent Frigate birds inflate their throat sacs during breeding season, clattering their bills, waving their heads back and forth, quivering their wings, and calling to females. After mating has passed females lay one or two white eggs. Both parents take turns feeding for the first three months but then only the mother feeds the young for another eight months. It takes so long to rear a chick that frigate birds cannot breed every year. It is typical to see juveniles as big as their parents waiting to be fed.

They are not endangered but populations appear to be declining, due mainly to human destruction of habitat for housing and resorts, and disturbance in colonies. Some potential problems they have are: introduced predators and over-fishing.

The Mapes Hotel in Reno, Nevada met its demise on Superbowl Sunday of 2000 when 75 pounds of explosives packed inside the structure’s support columns brought it to the ground. The controlled demolition came despite years of effort by a number of groups within the community to preserve the building with lawsuits, redevelopment proposals, and grass roots lobbying efforts. The National Trust for Historic Preservation even took up the cause, challenging the destruction in a lawsuit that eventually reached the Nevada Supreme Court.

While the efficacy and justification of demolishing the Mapes is debatable, one thing that is not is the glorious history of the hotel. It was built in’47, and signaled the start of the modern era of casino gambling. Despite the notoriety of Bugsy Siegel and the Flamingo in Las Vegas, it was the Mapes that became the first building in the nation to have a hotel, casino and live entertainment under one roof. It also became the hotel of choice for celebrities staying in Northern Nevada. Clark Gable and Marilyn Monroe stayed at The Mapes during the filming of ‘The Misfits’. Joseph McCarthy, America’s famed anti-Communist crusader, admitted to a reporter over cocktails in the Mapes Lounge that he really didn’t have a list of Communists in the US despite his frequent and vitriolic insistence to the contrary.

In the 50s and 60s it became, along with Lake Tahoes Cal-Neva Lodge the place to be seen in Northern Nevada. The top floor, window-walled Sky Room showcased performances by the legends: Sinatra, Louis Prima, Mae West, Milton Berle, Sammy Davis, Jr., and the Marx Brothers among others. Subsequent years were not kind to downtown Reno but the Mapes prospered during the 60’s and 70’s. The hotel finally closed in’82, due more to financial difficulties experienced by the Mapes family caused by one of their other Northern Nevada gaming properties than anything else.

Reno never experienced the massive growth that occurred in Las Vegas and southern Nevada, and for that reason the destruction of the Mapes is more open to debate than the hotel demolitions to the south. Even the demolition of The Sands–perhaps the most historically significant casino in the state–is hard to argue against given the inability of such a small property to compete in the current Las Vegas marketplace and in light of the value of the mid-strip real estate. The old properties may have historic value to pop culture historians, but their survival doesn’t make economic sense. They’re simply ‘analog players in a digital world’.

This is not the case in Reno, where land and buildings for development in virtually every casino area are abundant. The official reason that the Mapes had to come down was that the city needed the land–which sits along the banks of the Truckee River–to expand its riverside district of art galleries, restaurants and shops. The revitalization of downtown Reno is definitely needed and a legitimate goal, but at the same time it is hard to think that the Mapes was a barrier to this. Indeed, a number of proposals for redevelopment including office space, artists lofts and upscale senior housing would have probably served to enhance the livability of the downtown area. For whatever reason, the City Redevelopment Authority wouldn’t approve any of the proposals and the fate of the Mapes was sealed.

The role of the City Redevelopment Authority was questioned throughout the process. Overlooking the Truckee River, the hotel was on a prime location between the downtown casino area and the riverfront district. Back in’96, the city of Reno purchased the hotel and began entertaining proposals for renovation and redevelopment. A number of sound financial proposals were presented that would preserve the integrity of the structure including condominiums, office space, and perhaps most viable, upscale senior apartments. Oddly, all of these proposals were turned down by the citys Redevelopment Agency which eventually led to the demolition of the structure.

Following the 2000 demolition, the lot remained vacant for over a year until a temporary ice skating rink was hastily constructed the following winter. The property has been improved and the rink is now permanent which, while not in itself a bad use for the land, further calls into question the efficacy of demolishing the structure. It would appear that the city had no clue what to do with the land, but for whatever reason wanted the building brought down. This has led to all sorts of conspiracy theories, from the City Development Agency having financial incentive to raze the hotel to rumors that the building was haunted and was destroyed to keep the Reno area from being overrun with paranormal activity. Whatever the reason for the decision, the city of Reno has lost a beautiful art deco treasure that played a significant part in the economic growth of the state.

It has a tawny to reddish brown coat marked with black spots and rosettes. The fur is short, and lighter beneath. There are two black lines on either side of its face and has a black-banded tail. There is a single white spot on the back of each of its ears.

Studies suggest that it follows and finds prey via odor trails, but the ocelot also has very good vision, including night vision. The white rings around the ocelot’s eyes help to reflect extra light into the eye at night. Ocelots hunt over a range of 18 km2, taking mostly small animals like deer, various rodents, reptiles and amphibians lizards, turtles, frogs, crab, birds and fish.

The ocelot is mostly nocturnal and very territorial. It will fight fiercely, sometimes to the death, in territorial disputes. In addition, the ocelot marks its territory with especial urine. Like most felines, it is solitary, usually meeting only to mate. However, during the day it rests in trees or other dense foliage, and will occasionally share its spot with another ocelot of the same sex.

Like most felines, it is solitary, usually meeting only to mate. However, during the day it rests in trees or other dense foliage, and will occasionally share its spot with another ocelot of the same sex. Also fter mating the female will find a den in a cave in a rocky bluff, a hollow tree, or a dense thicket. The gestation period is estimated to be 70 days.

Generally the female will have 2-3 kittens. They are born in autumn with their eyes closed and a thin covering of hair. But thousands of ocelots have been killed for their fur. The feline was classified a “vulnerable” endangered species from 1972 until. This wild cat is distributed over South and Central America and Mexico.
